VOLUNTEER!!

WE LOVE OUR VOLUNTEERS!

The Roe Jan Park gets no funding from New York State to maintain and expand our facilities.  All the work is done for free by generous lovers of the park, and on two beautiful Saturdays, April 24 and May 1, these friends and neighbors really came out and showed their commitment.  Volunteer coordinator Patti Rohrlich had this to say in her thank you note to all who pitched in:

Dear Park Partners,

Another ton of work was done on Saturday, thanks to you.  The Community Garden is closer to being ready for the growing season, the Garlic Mustard is disappearing, our community dogs will be out and playing very soon, hikers and romantics will enjoy the woods, teenage kids will enjoy shooting hoops, the Farmhouse Garden has a beautiful sharp edge and our freshly raked playground looks better than ever. Our newly varnished Kiosk and professional greeter made starting the day most pleasant.

Thank you very very much,

Patti

Become a Park Partner

RJP is not a traditional park.  It doesn't receive operational funds from the state, county or town. It depends on folks who are willing to donate a few hours, or a few dollars, to make the park safe and inviting. There are few words to describe the essential role that community volunteers have played in the making and the ongoing maintenance of the RJP.  Its present appearance is a result of the enthusiasm, generosity, and hard work of lots of individuals, like Lynne and Ann at left.

How You Can Help

Trail Maintenance: Join a group of trail volunteers for a half day of raking, pruning, and picking up branches on the park’s four trails OR create your own trail group.

Trail Monitoring: Become a trained trail monitor and walk a trail at least twice a month to ensure trails are tidy and pleasant for the public.

Carpenter/handyman: There are small building projects and repairs needed for existing buildings.

Photography: Good quality visuals are needed that show children and adults using the park, wildlife, scenic landscapes, and seasonal beauty for our website (as well as various outreach material).

Writing: We will need help writing press releases, newsletters , and outreach material; editing skills are helpful.

Events and Programs: We need people to assist at events and gatherings.

Fundraising: We are looking for any help that you might be able to offer in raising funds for the park.

Office Assistance: Help is needed with periodic mailings (stuffing envelopes, stamping, sealing, etc.)

Educational Programs: Work with us to develop seasonal, recreational and educational programs in partnership with schools, libraries, day care centers, scouts, and seniors.
Send an email to Patti Rohrlich, volunteer coordinator,  and let her know what interests you. Check upcoming emails for announcements about events to help on.  Together we can all make this park even better.  This is an invaluable part of the community!
